Actually, I can't think of a single breakthrough thing MSFT has developed organically. DOS was bought, Windows and Explorer ripped off, and most everything else was bought or copied.
They were absolutely clueless with most of their investments during the bubble years, so I'm not sure VC would do them any good. You'd probably do better giving it to Paul Allen's Vulcan Ventures, the original black hole for billionaire cash.
