Beyond the fact that Chavez is planning to ship oil to China there is the no small matter that Bush does not want Chavez in Iran.
Bush also wants China out of Venezuela who is in line to receive Venezuelan oil which probably would have been destined for the United States.
Bush will pay terrorists, specifically the AUC, with our taxpayer money to destroy democratically elected Chavez of Venezuela for oil.
Bush will instigate a coup and try and stop the proposed pipeline and future Colombian oil port through which China might receive Venezuelan oil that would have gone to the United States for this he needs the terrorist organization AUC.
It is expected that Colombia will send troops into Venezuela at US insistence, possibly alongside US marines or Special Forces, or AUC units replete with Colombian soldiers. #msg-4239182 #msg-4550062
Chavez, a former army officer elected in 1998 vowing to fight poverty and corruption, suspended a trip to Costa Rica on Friday to attend an Ibero-American summit. But he planned to leave on Sunday for a tour of Spain, Libya, Iran and Russia.
This assassination was probably an attempt to get Chavez to also cancel his tour of Spain, Libya, Iran and Russia.
This is reminiscent of Putin having to suspend his trip to Turkey when Bush slaughtered the Russian school children at Beslan.
Right before Putin was to leave for Turkey to discuss among other things the building of a Russian controlled Trans-Thracian pipeline what are believed to be secessionist Chechen rebels have seized control of a Russian school taking hostage about 400 people _ half of them children _ and threatening to blow up the building forcing Putin to cancel his two-day state visit to Ankara much to the delight of the United States. #msg-3953878 #msg-4589620
Look at the three countries mentioned in the following excerpts.
The reality is that the strength of the U.S. dollar since 1945 rests on it being the international reserve currency. Thus it assumes the role of fiat currency for global oil transactions (ie. `petro-dollar'). The U.S. prints hundreds of billions of these fiat petro-dollars, which are then used by nation states to purchase oil/energy from OPEC producers (except Iraq, to some degree Venezuela, and perhaps Iran in the near future). These petro-dollars are then re-cycled from OPEC back into the U.S. via Treasury Bills or other dollar-denominated assets such as U.S. stocks, real estate, etc. In essence, global oil consumption provides a subsidy to the U.S. economy. Hence, the Europeans created the euro to compete with the dollar as an alternative international reserve currency. #msg-994080
"In 1999, Iraq, with the world's second largest oil reserves, switched to trading its oil in euros. American analysts fell about laughing; Iraq had just made a mistake that was going to beggar the nation. But two years on, alarm bells were sounding; the euro was rising against the dollar, Iraq had given itself a huge economic free kick by switching.
Iran started thinking about switching too; Venezuela, the 4th largest oil producer, began looking at it and has been cutting out the dollar by bartering oil with several nations including America's bete noir, Cuba. Russia is seeking to ramp up oil production with Europe (trading in euros) an obvious market. #msg-4131138
The minister said the attack was aimed at halting prosecutions led by Anderson against several hundred opposition politicians, lawyers and former military officers accused of supporting Chavez's short-lived ouster in the 2002 coup.
Excerpt: As for the events currently taking place in Venezuela, items #2 and #7 on the above list may allude to why the Bush administration quickly endorsed the failed military-led coup of Hugo Chavez in April 2002. Although the coup collapsed after 2 days, various reports suggest the CIA and a rather embarrassed Bush administration approved and may have been actively involved with the civilian/military coup plotters. #msg-994080
"This was clearly a political assassination," Information Minister Andres Izarra said. "We believe the U.S. government must explain how these terrorist groups can be operating in Florida, U.S. territory."
There is no terrorist sanctuary to compare with Florida, currently governed by the President's brother, Jeb Bush. In his book Rogue State , former senior State Department official Bill Blum describes a typical Florida trial of three anti-Castro terrorists, who hijacked a plane to Miami at knifepoint. 'Even though the kidnapped pilot was brought back from Cuba to testify against the men,' he wrote, 'the defence simply told the jurors the man was lying, and the jury deliberated for less than an hour before acquitting the defendants.'
General Jose Guillermo Garcia has lived comfortably in Florida since the 1990s. He was head of El Salvador's military during the 1980s when death squads with ties to the army murdered thousands of people. General Prosper Avril, the Haitian dictator, liked to display the bloodied victims of his torture on television. When he was overthrown, he was flown to Florida by the US Government.
This is a revised extract from The New Rulers of the World , by John Pilger,
May. 17, 2004 Over 100 detainees remain in custody after being collared in raids since last Sunday, when authorities discovered a group of supposed Colombian paramilitary fighters hiding at a farm on the outskirts of Caracas.
Chavez claims the alleged plot was hatched in Miami and that U.S. officials knew about it. #msg-3103072
List of suspects subpoenaed by Prosecutor Danilo Anderson to give deposition
This list having the potential to implicate the United States would be the obvious reason for the assassination.

The list of some of the 400 persons already subpoenaed by assassinated Prosecutor Danilo Anderson reads like a Who's Who of the Venezuela's radical opposition that sought to overthrow President Hugo Chavez Frias in April 2002.

They are those who flocked to the Miraflores Presidential Palace to sign a decree issued by Dictator Pedro Carmona Estanga after Chavez Frias was whisked away to imprisonment on the Caribbean island of La Orchila where a US military aircraft had already landed ostensibly to whisk him off into ignominious exile as they later did with Haiti's President Aristide.
US NED funds democracy...
The Carmona Decree had sought to dissolve the Constitution, the National Assembly (AN) and the Judiciary in one fell swoop ahead of a minimum, 12 months dictatorship that Carmona Estanga subsequently said could be extended to 5-10 years. He was deposed by loyalists before he could do too much damage to Venezuela's new-born democracy and Chavez Frias was returned to legitimate power.
