My external is kept in the desk drawer. When I backup with Casper XP, it makes an identical cloned copy of the hard drive in the machine. That, coupled with using an identical make/model hard drive for the external, means that if I have a failure or a badazz flea, all I have to do is pull the original hard drive out of the machine and replace it with the cloned copy hard drive.
