Personally I prefer the old reliable standard 38 -- you don't want a gun that can jam when you point it at someone pointing a gun at you!

Unless you have handled a .45 auto, it is a very difficult pistol to become accurate with....I own 5 of them. Pulling back the slide at a moment's notice is taking a chance. Nothing beats a revolver....a Colt Python with a 4" barrel is what I keep loaded next to my bed.
