My point is that citing a widespread winter storm, or even an unusually cold winter, in and of itself is not sufficient to disprove the "fact" of the greenhouse effect and global warming. This is ludicrous.

I just heard a headline on Good Morning America... something like, "This morning it is colder in some parts of Texas than it is in Antarctica." Now what does that tell ya?

It is true that we are in uncharted waters to some extent regarding increased levels of greenhouse gases, and the overall effect of the resulting global warming.

But surely we can agree that limiting and reducing greenhouse emissions is a good and worthwhile undertaking, especially since it is something that we can succeed at.

I use the example of off road diesel engine emissions standards as an example since it is something that I have first hand experience at, and have followed the evolution of. Due to Government enforced emission standards over the last 3 decades, we are now producing the most powerful, clean burning, high torque, long life, and fuel efficient diesel engines ever, by far.

And by the way... the epa used a sort of "cap and trade" mechanism for enforcement of the standards with the manufacturers, i.e. they could get credits for certain engines that they manufactured that met the standards to help cover the fines imposed on those engines that didn't.

But how can we be certain that we understand all the physical mechanisms that contribute to Global Warming?

Well, it doesn't seem that far-fetched, but if you say so, by all means, let us err on the side of recklessness eh?

That's sorta like asking how can we be certain the Patriot Act will be abused.
