I consulted an Art Director, of more than one publication, since 1976. Academic orientation. Magazine put together in one state and printed in another. Around 300k circulation I believe. Used to be, anyway.

Have no idea about late changes to articles except that it might involve Art Director pulling own hair out.

Think before one writes.Geo, your confusion is engendered by what I wrote.

Kindly substitute "printer" for "publisher" in the post to which this responds.

The two journals of which I was Editor-in-Chief were the publishers. I selected the articles for publication, and sent those articles to the printer to be formatted in Journal form and to be ultimately printed. I gave the OK on the letterpress version of one Journal or offset pre-proof version of the other Journal once the entire Journal had been proof-read by me and corrected as necessary by the printer. The printer entity then printed and mailed the journals to subscribers, of which there were ~2000-4000 at that time. We had a computer whiz lady who did a superb job of formatting manuscripts in the appropriate journal page size for the offset process.

I did this in evenings and weekends while working full-time in other jobs, with help from family and friends or Associate or Contributing editors as needed.
