DEC grew huge and rich on the VAX in the early 80s but was too slow to embrace the next big thing - RISC computing. The second biggest computer company in the world 25 years ago is now nothing more than the answer to a tech trivia question.
The worst possibly thing that Intel could do would be cut R&D projects and spending and stick to making marginal improvements to successive generations of PC processors.
