Ontario already spends about 40% of it's budget on healthcare with Prince Edward Island (the lowest %) at 30% plus.

The problem is the Federal that take half the tax give almost no service to the population and the Federal stopped to index it's part of medicare more than 10 years ago.
In Canada we are very much taxed ... but let suppose it's 25% of family income, half is provincial, so 12.5%, and 40% of this is 5% ... and aging of population won't increase indefinitely, we are all dead long term.

Also the fed won't continue to make outrageous surplus without a new tax repartition is put in place.

Or, a third alternative to consider, reduce healthcare costs by eliminating the "pork-barrel", and abuse of the system.
