I think INTC is trying more and more to diversify its variety of market segments.
I think in the next five to six years maybe sooner INTC's bread and butter will be more from non-PC related income.

I believe cell phones, smaller form factor computing devices will be in demand in significantly higher numbers. INTC wants to be there. We will have to see. IMHO...

CG: Over the past quarter century Intel has worked hard to
push the boundaries of x86 into new areas (servers in the
mid 90s, netbooks and and handheld more recently) while
AMD simply offers lower priced me-too alternatives for the
largest and most mature of the x86 markets Intel has long
since established. IMO that is still the best path for AMD
to take for survival.

This has always been the best alternative for AMD. The largest and lowest cost opportunity for them has always been to let Intel pave the way for new markets and then offer improved products along those product lines with slightly lower pricing. But no. They always seem to come out on the ego driven, risky, lets wipe out Intel business plans that ultimately will fail by definition. Until you get a corporate culture change along with a management change that will not happen. And, with the present BOD, that will never happen.
