Good question, jsc. I can think of several possible answers.
- They quit drilling early because of downhole pressure/mechanical problems and were afraid of losing the well.
- Good enough shows were encountered to make them believe they found commercial production and they decided to save the money that continued operations would cost. They would test the deeper zone(s) in the future.
- The well was completely out of whack with the seis and they decided to trash it early.
