Bit the bullet and called my computer guy. Went through a seris of things with him including the restore suggestion you had mentioned. helped me check driver on the sound and everything checked out. Finally had me uninstall the sound on device menu and re-install it. Everything Worked fine after that. He said it was obscure but for some reason my computer decided not to recognize the sound card.
