les, I think Neomedia did give Scanbuy something of value for the fully paid up licenses. I think Neomedia forgave part or all of the cash payment they were asking Scanbuy for past infringements. This would carry value. Did Neomedia pay Scanbuy any money out of pocket? NO but would have been giving up some of the cash owed them So my God everybody is part right. Also if Neomedia was in the position to forfiet cash in the settlement, it speaks volumes as to their need for cash now as opposed to what it once was. This is only my opinion feeble as it is but my opinion anyway.
Lesn: I don't how you went from $1 to "NeoMedia paid a lot up front." Those are your words, not mine.
It was not a handshake and it was not free - that is termed "royalty-free." If it was royalty free, you can bet NeoMedia would have used those words. Anything other than that is embellishment of an already good deal for NeoMedia. Good just wasn't good enough.
Sometime next year we will have some clarity on the issue.
