I never said Beck was fair or balanced. If he was doing hard news I would lose respect for Fox, but he's doing an opinion show.
Beck doesn't put out materially false statements and I have not seen him take statements out of context and then take something serious from it. He has done that and made a joke over it, usually to highlight what that person (subject of commentary) has said that was unfair.
Please don't make up a straw man out of supposition over things I didn't say and pin them on me. If you do that you are only arguing with yourself. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that you didn't intend to do that.
From my perspective, though, I think it's funny that Beck's viewers somehow got the impression that Obama might be the anti-Christ. After all, health care and civil rights for all seem like they could be the work of the devil.... Which would mean that wanting to address energy independence and a cleaner environment is also satan's work. Sorry for the sarcasm, but *that's* a letter that Beck wants to address on his show...? And *that's* then considered proof that Beck is balanced in his political view...?
I'm sorry, Omega, but in my view it's just legitimizing that asking these kinds of questions are appropriate in political discourse, when in my opinion the idea of the anti-Christ having an agenda like Obama's is certifiably crazy - and speaks to the kind of audience watching Beck's show.
So, some people who's lunacy Beck was making fun of who thought Obama may be the Anti Christ speaks to Beck's average audience in some representative manor? Really? How about those who thought Bush was the anti Christ who watched about every other network?
Beck often speaks of crazies on left and right, and makes fun of their crazy ideas. He doesn't approve and he tells people often that sane people need to shake off the extremes and get the government that they deserve. Not one they settle for, because when they settle they do get what they deserve, which is not good.
I can see impatience had come and pretenses of fairness have waned. You don't want to give Beck a fair shake so you wont. The fact is you don't know what he does. He's a lot more accurate fair, and intellectually honest than Olberman, Maddow, or Ed, who you say you do watch. I watch them too.
My feelings on this, if you want to be fair be fair. If not don't pretend it and end up prejudging someone on what others say about him.
That's the mistake Joesph Goebbels had the Germans making. They had no idea they had been bamboozled until after the war was over. This aided Hitler in his monumentally evil acts, right under their noses.
You for instance don't think it alarming that Obama would attempt to declare those who don't agree with him to be "not legitimate media". It doesn't start out all ovens and gas chambers. These things start so they can hardly be noticed and develop from there so the people involved hardly notice. Better to stick to not letting this kind of thing get started.
I'd suggest you watch what you want to criticize, or don't.
