Got gold? Not very much. What we do have is lots of land in a few places. If nothing else we can always light a fire, shoot a few quadrupeds and grow a garden <g>.
My cousins are even better off. They own square miles of semi-desert where the jackrabbits carry canteens. Underneath the sage brush are shallow pools of oil yielding a few barrels/day of oil via stripper wells. Needless to say they spend their winters by the pool in Arizona.
