About this time of year. I'm on the south shore of Long Island near Kennedy airport and nuthatches only pass through spring and fall. They summer either farther inland on the island or farther north. Chickadees are here all year but only come to the backyard feeder when it cools off and the insects they prefer to eat aren't around.
