Since it seems to be the thing to try and pull some reasoning out of one's backside to explain away the authorization of additional shares, I'll take a stab with a positive twist.
They did the dreaded "Friday after close" annuncement so the stock price couldn't tank (anymore than it is) before they announce their partnership agreement first thing Monday before the open of the market.
They will need additional stock going forward, no doubt. If they had announce this AFTER the partnership agreement, it would have had a negative action on the stock price. By doing it this way, it will have no action at all on the stock price as the new partnership announcement will propel the share price higher come Monday morning.
There!! How's that one?? Yea, ... I don't even believe this one myself. :)
