Over the years super computers and many more data collection points have changed the picture significantly.
It used to be 95% chance, 3% art and 2% science. The technology gets better every year. Now it is about 90% science, 5% art, and 5% chance.
Look at the accuracy of this year's storm predictions. 12 hours out they could tell you exactly where the storm was going and how powerful the winds would be and where the most damage would occur. Five days out they told us within 300 miles where it was going to hit.
