I agree Steph... Something needs to be done, but I'm hoping if there is a public plan that quality doesn't suffer and it is still left to the patient and physician as to the appropriate treatment and not the government. I don't want anyone telling me I'm too old to have a hip replacement. And btw, how in the world does the government cut quantity and claim better quality from exactly the same medical providers and insure additional people by cutting services to those already insurred for less money?

The above is reported by selective media along with long lines and months of waiting for appointments and services with public plans. Now we read this all the time. How does one know the truth of the matter. Are these things true or is it rubbish put out by those opposed to a national health care plan. I don't know.

I do know, it's a huge problem and I'm really not certain where the money's going. Are lawmakers also being paid and which ones? I suspect many from both parties. People are on private insurance companies and I'm certain they have all to do with higher insurance rates and the fact they do try to cut covered services, but there's also runaway hospital, drug and physician costs that can't be attributed to private insurance as private insurers would surly wish to see smaller bills.

The only thing I know for fact is that it cost me 200 dollars for 3 pills as an out patient in a hospital that I take regularly at home that doesn't cost more than 5 bucks. Seems outpatient surgery doesn't save anything as the hospitals have to have so many dollars to operate anyway. And how about drugs. If the price of drugs are contained so that the drug companies don't make an embarrassing killing in dollars made.. are they then going to search out new life saving drugs important to many people. And how about Canadian orders which I have used that save tons of dollars. Will that prevent drug companies to do research?

Then an additional problem. Generally speaking the average American doesn't understand the medical industry well enough to make decisions and I'm not certain the government does either and I wonder if the medical community's contributions to their election campaigns isn't a hugely contributing factor that contributes to a runaway health care system. Bottom line in my opinion, I guess give the public plan a chance as nothing else has worked and if it doesn't work .. get rid of it. I have my doubts a national system will pass in congress. Too many dollars going to too many people that don't want anything done. Will be interesting. mo. .. nic
