One thing for sure back in the day (Nolan Ryan) pitch count was unheard of.

I'm sure it does to a certain extent. I would have to believe an extra 20 pitches a game might cost you 1-2 years in your career. I mean I don't want any pitcher going past 125 pitches, as for me I would push the pitch count to a 115-125 pitches. Now you can't do this on starters that are allready in the league they have not been really trained to go much past 100 pitches, so I leave them alone, but Kids you bring up through the minor you can train them to go 115-125 pitches. That will give you another inning or so of less bullpen, which in my opinion will improve the quality of Pitching in baseball, but that is simply just my opinion.
