Method and apparatus for adaptive power control for spread-spectrum communications

Abstract
A code division multiple access subscriber unit comprises an antenna configured to output a radio frequency signal, the radio frequency signal having a quadrature (Q) channel and an in-phase (I) channel. A circuit coupled to the antenna, the circuit being configured to generate power control bits which are carried by one of the I and Q channels and not the other one of the I and Q channels, the power control bits are spread coded and are adapted to control an output power of a base station. The radio frequency signal is a first radio frequency signal, the circuit is further configured to generate the power control bits based on a power level of a second radio frequency signal output by a base station and an interference level associated with the second radio frequency signal.

#258191 RE: Gamco #258187

The below patent is from the same family as the patents in dispute in the Nokia ITC investigation. Remember the whole discussion we had on this board about scrambling and descrambling. Apparently IDCC is being consistent and indicating that scrambling means both scrambling and decrambling.

User equipment identification specific scrambling

Abstract
A base station for use in a code division multiple access communication system comprises circuitry configured to process a user equipment identification (UE ID) by 1/2 rate convolutionally encoding the UE ID to produce a code. The code is used by the base station for scrambling a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH). The base station is configured to transmit a wireless signal. The wireless signal provides the user equipment with payload data carried on a high speed physical downlink shared channel (HS-PDSCH). The HS-PDSCH is associated with the HS-SCCH.
