Hi, Mack. Yes, as a matter of fact I did drive up the Gorge as far as The Dalles. Unfortunately, it poured the whole time I was there (camped overnight) so never got a really good view of the Gorge itself. Loved Hood River, a charming little town, nice location. I like the Pacific Northwest a lot. Hadn't been up there in a heap of years until this trip. Will make another run for Vancouver in a couple of months, and will revisit the Olympic Peninsula and see Port Angeles, which I missed last trip. You're lucky to live in such a beautiful place.
