Because Nokia doesn't need 4 suppliers.

From today's news:

The main supplier for GSM/GPRS single-chip was Texas Instruments, which will, however, exit this business. Infineon basically announced yesterday that Nokia will start by the end of this year to increase Infineon’s supplier share of ca. 10% to – in the best case – 100% for GSM/GPRS mobile phones.

A 7th Inning Streeeeeeeeeeetch ...

Rev.

<< The next Infineon/Nokia design win should be for 3G. I would not be surprised if it is for Infineon low end 3G chip. >>

I consider that to be quite a leap at this juncture since Nokia already has 1 current (TI) and 3 formally announced 3GSM IC supplier/partners (ST-Ericsson, Broadcom, & Qualcomm) -- with the latter 2 being recent adds to their expanded silicon supply strategy 1st announced and addressed in a Nokia webcast in August 2007.

<< I would not be surprised if it is currently part of IDCC/NoKia settlement negotiations. >>

This is a world where (almost) anything is possible, but personally I would be extremely surprised if Nokia would contemplate that as a consideration in any settlement negotiations currently and actively taking place with InterDigital. Then again, I've been surprised before.

I'm looking at it from NOK's perspective... they simply don't need a 4th supplier for 3G chipsets.
