its all illegal. putin is simply nationalizing some property owned by people that he did not like and thought that doing so would help him with the "people"

You missed one bit and that was that the Russian Govt decdied to seel the assets of Yukos to a group of "friendly" buyers for next to nothing.

So a group of US/UK buyers offerd to pay something near market price in cash immediately and the Russian Govt said nothing but snet in the Bailiff.

I think thats roughly where it is now.
