They are opening printing money to buy the long end of the curve. Why short here? Why not short over areas of the market vs gold? Is the panic buying or what aspect?

Interest rates and the dollar are crashing too. Be careful, as we may have seen a shift here.

The kicker to me is that if the FED is buying treasuries, that should support the dollar.
