Sag:

Do a board search on this board for 'bbs' and you'll find Bob and Bird of Prey are certified experts on such obsolete knowledge as BBSs.

I liked TBBS a bunch, too. My main site ran during most of its life on RemoteAccess, but I ran another site for a while on TBBS using TDBS (dBase-compatible) code I'd written, and wrote TDBS sites for others and ran a WildCat board for another company.

There are only about half a dozen people I knew in the BBS days that I'm still in contact with. Though the internet variation of the BBS is a lot cooler in most regards, most of the sense of "community" is gone.

Hey, Sag. Fascinating, isn't it. The ACGNJ had two BBs, one where you could upload/download software and one that I ran for the submission of newsletter articles. The main one had one of those "portal" things and someone got on it and deleted all the files. There was much roaring and beating of chests. I refused to put one up. I never understood why it was necessary or wise ... and I still don't. Oh, I know all this stuff about updating software and "rendering" data. Personally, I think it's poppycock. All I need is the data. I'll do the "rendering" ... and, suddenly, I have security ... and no viruses.

Ah, well. I guess Teddy Roosevelt's not president any more.

Edit: With regard to joining Gates, I may have a little Winston Churchill in my bones ... "We will NEVAH surrender!"

You know what annoys me? I was so far out of the loop I thought "ABM" stood for Anti-Ballistic Missile. By the time I learned that it meant (A)nything (B)ut (M)icrosoft, all my comrades-in-arms were dead in the trenches or had been taken prisoner.

Ohhh, the sadness.
