That is correct and, as I recall, Dew had a list of all the possible competitors in the ReadmeFirst. Nevertheless, an agument can be made that Goats are one of the better choices, if not the best, and GTCB is well ahead of the pack anyway...

Not exactly because I believe GTCB has patents covering all transgenics from mammals. Patents are a strong deterrent but of course that depends on the strength of the patent...

Yes they would need GTCB as noted in the answer above unless they want to try and violate patents, which I doubt they will with Goats at least. Moreover, the know how and state of the art is in the hands of GTCB, and it will take another company a long time to catch up...
