bp, how hard would it be for any company to compete with GTC? Perhaps the problem with GTC is that proteins like Antithrombin can't be patented. It is getting quite common for a biotech company to be able to create a Transgenic plant or animal, so the process can't any longer be that difficult.

So the only thing GTC can patent is the process of inserting genes or the filtration process. And patent protection is a complicated issue, many companies may have their own patented processes.

Can't any company create a transgenic goat to make Antithrombin? Do they need GTC to do that? Using Antithrombin as an exmple.
