Dear cleith (part 1)
Your adviser asks the "painful question", the difficult question. If GTC's technology, its novel protein production platform, (NPPP) ie mammalian transgenics is so valuable why has not the rest of the industry recognised this? Why is the company so drastically undervalued?
We must try to understand why there is such a huge discrepancy between potential value of GTC and present market cap.
Questions:
Is the technology viable? Ans Yes
What are the advantages of GTC's NPPP over the currently used cell culture techniques for protein production? What are the disadvantages? How does the Biotech industry view these advantages and disadvantages at present? at and what could bring about the paradyne shift neccessary for the industry to enbrace GTC's platform.
The advantages of GTC's NPPP are in terms economy and virtuousity. All protein synthesis requires DNA-RNA. Currently most protien synthesis is done by cell culture, bacteria yeast ect in vat systems. From an economic standpoint since a single or a small number of goats can usually match the output of a vat "factory" there is a considerable reduction in initial capital out lay and operating expenses once a goat system is established. Mammalian transgenics can synthesize some therapeutic protiens in quanity that are difficult to express in cellculture systems. This is true for plasma proteins. The advantage of the mammary system over the cell culture comes about because the mammary gland manufactures helper proteins which are neccesary to create the correct three dimensional configuration of the finalised protien structure from the amino acid sequence.
This all sounds very good. So why is BP not impressed?....
