Friday is Canada's first ever Red Day
Tuesday November 25, 4:45 pm ET
TORONTO, Nov. 25 /CNW/ - This coming Friday, November 28th, will be the first "Red Day" sale in Canada, created to mirror the U.S. Thanksgiving weekend sales which attract many Canadians south of the border for the bargains.
The initiative came from The Brick which has encouraged retailers and shopping malls across Canada to start an annual tradition of a November sale day.
"Canadians need a Boxing Day-type sale event prior to the holidays," says Kim Yost, CEO of The Brick. "With worries growing about the economy, there couldn't be a better time to launch Red Day for consumers across Canada."
In addition to significant savings on merchandise, Red Day will also feature longer shopping hours. The Brick will be open from 7:00 in the morning until midnight. It is expected that many Canadians will take advantage of the extended hours to shop before work in the morning and well into the late evening.
"The goal is to make this an annual event that will involve many more retailers across Canada," adds Yost. "Canadians need a break this time of year, and Red Day will certainly help with pre-holiday shopping expenses."
