Usually, they will hit a plastic worm or a lizard, Bullrider. Rig it Carolina style and cast just past the nest, then drag the worm ssssslllllloooooowwwwwwwllllllyyyyyyyy past the bed. The big guy usually can't resist taking a nip. trkyhntr
Bullrider - I hear ya! i know I hear the 'pros' talking about sight fishing, etc, but actually getting it to work is a different matter. I have on a few occasions caught a fish like this, but not many times for sure. I took repeated casts to the nest area, and I can't remember catching one on anything but a tube bait, actually! I would drag it along the edge fo the nest, stop it in the immediate area, twitch it a bit with the rod tip and then reel it in again and start alll over. Sooner or later, the bass (he/she) would move over and pick up the tube in their mouth as if to move it away. THEN you own them! Releasing them immediately in the area assures they will get back to the nest real soom.
It is not something I would want to have to do for a living though!!!
Here are two out of several tried and proven methods:
Have you tried throwing a Pico Pop or Lil' Pop behind the bed, letting it gently hit the water, then let it stay at rest for a couple of seconds, then one quick but, light pop sending a nice ring over the bed, wait another second or two, then 2-3 quick, little pops?!? Very deadly down @ Falcon and/or Choke Canyon lake's.
If no luck there go for the Big Dawg...a Zara Spook! Pitch that baby behind the bed, let it rest for 3-5 seconds, then Walk the Dog like crazy!!! Really trying to aggravate that Monster as you bring it across the bed.
On both you may get the nip routine or the tail swatting trick. If so then you are making it mad as hell. Do it over again till you get that dude on the wall...
No matter how bad your day has gone...fishin' is the cure! Well behind sex and maybe huntin'! Awwww heck go for all 3...
