TWWG- I have Cingular with several phones on a family plan. The rollover minutes bank is a significant advantage. Coverage and call quality are excellent in Nevada and So. Cal., however, coverage in No. Cal. is unacceptable (e.g. on the freeway between SF and SJ = many dropouts). Coverage in other parts of the US is also very good (beware of roaming charges on some plans).
In England, I found that my phone was "locked". When I attempted to buy a local SIM chip the store "unlocked" it (a simple electronic procedure involving a PC, some s/w, and a cable; however, my phone did not work on the local frequency band so the SIM did not work, my purchase transaction was cancelled, and my phone was not usable there.
I do recommend Cingular for call quality, plan options, and customer service, except for the coverage problems in No. Cal.. If I lived in No. Cal, then I might not choose Cingular.
I too am waiting to integrate my PDA, internet access, and cell phone on Cingular. I might have switched carriers to do this sooner, but given the family plan, rollover minutes bank, and good call quality in my primary areas of use have been deterents to switching.
