Wow! This story and the players are becoming more bizarre by the day.

The Xers sure know how to pick the finest scams to invest their money with. Sad!

Wrong company. Lumb likes to give his outfits names that are similar to the names of real companies.

A few hours after posting my letter (10369) re. Stephen Craig Lumb,I received a phone call from a Mr. Gordon Law, who claimed to be the chief Compliance Officer in California for JP Morgan Stanley. His superiors had asked him to obtain a copy of my report and they would hit me with law suits of millions of dollars if I had defamed Mr. Lumb, one of their wealthiest and most valued clients-a Fortune 500 contender.

I described one or two of my problems, but Mr. Law stated that although Mr. Lumb could be difficult, he had never, never, never known him to lie or fail to keep an agreement. He asked me what I thought Lumb would do when he heard my letter was on the Net. I replied that I had a cast iron case and would face that when it came. Why threaten me with law suits costing many millions of dollars and risk getting bad publicity all over the media when,as Mr. Law agreed ,the settlement figure I require is “pocket money” to a multi-millionaire like Lumb. The veiled threats continued for over three and a half hours until I said we had debated the subject long enough.

I have heard nothing more from JP Morgan Stanley, Mr. Gordon Law, or for that matter ,an alerted Mr. Lumb.I am having my report vetted by a lawyer before issuing it.

JP Morgan Stanley

I know of Morgan Stanley, and JPMorgan Chase, but unless I've missed something in the news I don't think there's any such entity as "JP Morgan Stanley", at least none of significance.

Allan, ditto what Kevin wrote about the name of JP Morgan Stanley (as opposed to Chase). Additionally, compliance officers are interested in internal matters, not alleged libel on message boards. Did you happen to get a phone number either for the call or a call-back? Sounds pretty fishy to me.

If you get a call like that again, simply tell the caller that everything he says will be documented here-- a message board where a large percentage of those covered end up in jail. And that's not a coincidence.

Come to think of it, how can an individual be a "Fortune 500 contender"? Does "Mr. Law" not know the difference between the Fortune 500 and the Forbes 400?

There's no company called "JP Morgan Stanley", and no individual can be "a Fortune 500 contender". Add "over three and a half hours" of veiled threats and my guess is that your caller was probably Lumb himself.
