Yeah! Our 850# safeties just sit there weeping and a chattering, new or not it seems...doesn't take long.

Setting them at 920# helps.

All the scum/skim is at the very top and the combo heat/pressure valves are a weaker link. Don't like those.

Notice how people ask for but don't follow advice?

I repaired a freezer for the local hardware owner one day. He and I got along great and I always paid my bill by return mail. Frank was really helpful and I was always glad to see him. His wife and I laughed a lot about men and appliances. One day they called me to repair their freezer full of meat. I fixed it and told her everything was OK, went down to the hardware and got paid.

Next week I stopped in and asked how was the freezer going? He said, "Well I got home that night and it was running, but the sides were hot so I didn't want to lose that food, so we drove hell for leather to Astoria and bought a new freezer! I said "Good god Frank, they are SUPPOSED to get hot on the sides, why didn't you call me?" He just shrugged.

He decided to call.
I fixed.
He decided I didn't.
Why call me?

"If you open that valve it will never reseat."

too late, i already opened it. opened it several times, in fact, in an effort to blow out sediment. the dripping has stopped, but that might only be temporary.

i respect your 20 years in the business, but i have been told by plumbers that it's a good thing to try.

here's a guy who says it's okay, but he's only been a plumber for 10 years!

"P/T Valve on Gas Heater is Leaking

Q: Intermittent leak from pressure-temperature valve PT valve new with heater and heater has a surge tank already installed to absorb surges in water pressure. I turned the temperature setting down, it helps some but run out of hot water too fast!

A: It could be a couple of things. Although it is only 1-1/2 years old the safety valve could be bad, which means it needs to be replaced? Most likely sediment has built up around the valve. Try flushing it out. Place a bucket under the blow down tube from the valve. Quickly open and close the valve a couple of times to clean it out. If it still leaks replace the valve."

thanks for the input. i'm sure that you know what you are talking about.
