If posts read in batches of 100 were each counted in the post reads it would make it very simple for posters to manipulate the reads. They could just keep hitting next 100 and watch the board rise in the standings.

I think it would be abused to get boards ranked higher.

It doesn't exclude reads. It counts each page view as one read. If it hasn't always done so, it has for a long time.
