Solar and wind have severe economic problems. Solar only works when the sun is shining. Wind only works when the wind blows. The "gathering devices" are not cheap; require a lot of maintenance; some are environmentally unsound (solar collectors); and the surges of power when the wind and clouds come and go play havoc on the power grid. Without government subsidies, there would be no solar and wind power ... and the wind mills kill birds. And I know of no person who enjoys the noise that wind mills make.
I, for one, having lived in third-world and fourth-world countries, have no desire to have my standard of living reduced to that level ... especially when there is natural gas, oil, coal and nuke to spare. And since man-made (anthropogenic) global warming is bogus.
Chernobyl was not a power-reactor; it was a Soviet dual-use reactor built by the command economy without a containment vessel. Three Mile Island was a public relations disaster, but produced no actual physical ill effects ... apart from the hysteria created by the media.
