As much as I have tremendous respect for DNA, I find this comment to be a bit superficial. DNA is not infalliable. I remember a character on the Yahoo GTC site from years ago by the name of Jprp (or some such). I suspect many of you remember him. He often spoke of the role of disruptive technologies. The pairing of Per.C6 and disposables is just this, disruptive. Years ago, the suits at DNA made a decision based on the norm of that time (~1gm/L). They had no way of reliablly predicting that shortly after Vacaville came on line that vastly cheaper & quicker technology would be available to achieve the same yields.

DSM/Crucell’s PER.C6 platform has produced 27g/l, according to
today’s PR from the companies. Yet there is no approved drug or
high-profile drug candidate I’m aware of that employs PER.C6
technology. A prior thread on this board debated the relevance of
PER.C6 for GTC investors, so I won’t restate the arguments here.

More so, the glycosylation of monoclonal antibodies and proteins, produced using PER.C6® technology, is fully human.

Scientists at PERCIVIA PER.C6® Development Center, a joint venture between DSM and Crucell, have shown that they can reproducibly manufacture a record amount of product with over 95% viability and unchanged product quality. This accomplishment was achieved using standard bioreactor equipment and readily available cell culture medium. The result of this effort provides the entire biotechnology industry with a reliable production platform to economically manufacture large amounts of therapeutic proteins with ease.
