Jim,Home prices are actually holding up well in NE PA also. That is only because the bubble never happened here.I drive around a lot with my biz and notice many regular homes for sale.I think people are anticipating higher heating bills next winter and are getting out.Lots of fixed income/elderly here.As far as biz goes.Last month comps for April,I crushed my 07 numbers. This month bites and am giving it back+.The Stimulus checks(I estimate at least 80 million out)have had no effect for my biz or for anyone else(Polled 30+ small/corporates).People are holding the money or paying past due bills. That is what I am hearing from many.Bob
Jim,Here is my retail update through May:First off I went into this year hoping for even or down a small % with my biz.I held up great Jan/April and was on the plus side.I got killed in May.The stimulus checks had no effect or if they did we are in real trouble. All my friends in small biz are down 20/25% this year(the ones left). The corporate DM's and managers I know are also reporting bad May figures to me.I also have a close friend that owns 6 fedex ground routes and his mall deliveries are down 25% this year.Hanging tough as overall I am basically even/down now less than a %.I am working hard and it is paying off as I am holding steady with last years comps. It is nasty out their. If gas/energy costs keep going up BIG PROBLEMS looking forward.Bob :))
