Correct me if I'm wrong, but is Deep Down located in what used to be a hotel? Their sign looks like a hotel sign with one of those "Welcome to the Elks Club" type marquises on it.

I don't think it's a bad thing, I am always a fan of using what works. Before Microsoft moved into their Albuquerque headquarters, they operated out of a rented motel room. It's better that beginnings be humble than not!
