The trade off, is the US gets military bases in Iraq, so we can threaten Iran, Syria and the Saudis. Maybe Saddam would have let us install bases, maybe not. He was getting pretty desperate towards the end.

Either way, they will probably end up being the most costly US military bases ever, if you factor in how much it cost to win them. And that includes lives and money.

Chalabi is not happy with the re-Bathification.
