IMO:This was in IDCC's 10K filed after they provided 1st quarter guidance..There may well be a RIM 3G true up ..
"In fourth quarter 2007, we entered into an amendment of the existing non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-bearing convenience-based patent license agreement with Research In Motion Limited. Under the terms of the amendment, we extended the term of the patent license agreement through December 31, 2012 and also expanded the scope of the patent license agreement to cover 3G products"
Surely some of RIM's 12.26 Million units were 3G.
According to IDC data, Nokia shipped 60 million smartphones in 2007, accounting for the largest share, at 48%, in the global smartphone segment. RIM (Research in Motion) followed with shipments totaling 12.26 million units for a 9.8% market share.
When we enter into a new patent license agreement, the licensee typically agrees to pay consideration for sales made prior to the effective date of the license agreement and also agrees to pay royalties or license fees on covered products that it will sell or anticipates selling during the term of the agreement.
