AIM will always 'beat' Buy and Hold after a few market cycles, even with By the Book settings. But as many of us have discovered over the years, this can be a stressful experience. It should always work out if the underlying issue(s) in your program has a flat to positive value growth curve.
I'm probably opening a Can-o-Worms here, but I've been thinking recently that if one were able to 'tune' AIM (any variant) to the long term upward slope of a stock (assuming it exists that way), it would perform even better. Using 'flat' Buy and Sell Minimums (11.111% and 9.091%) for example along with a set of Split Safe settings that are 'tilted' to the slope would, in my opinion position the program to improve returns over the long haul versus standard settings.
