Well if I remember correctly, Abraham cast out his son by Hagar because of Sarah's jealosy, and God had to rescue the boy and his mom:

Genesis (21:18) Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.

I called into question your reference to only the Jews being the descendents of Abraham favored by God. Apparently the Bible tells us more - that God also favored the child rejected by his father. Perhaps now we see why hatreds run deep in the ME.
