That Sustiva alone is almost as big as Atripla shows how challenging it must have been add Sustiva to the two other drugs in Atripla and get a pill no larger than Atripla. This was accomplished by improving the active-ingredient % from 50% to 67%.
Note: the RDEA806 pill shown above is only 200mg. In the phase-2a trial just reported, 2-4 of these pills were given simultaneously. RDEA is still working on the formulation of larger-dose pills.
