OT: bootz - not exactly, but close
I think Tenet and the White House have a tenuous devil's bargain of sorts. From the standpoint of the White House, Tenet is a career professional, but he's also a Clinton appointee and they believe there is some slack he gets cut among Democrats on Capitol Hill, because if they go after him too hard, then the White House might give him the heave-ho and replace him with someone more ... well, I was going to say "more neanderthal", but perhaps I should just say, less to the D's liking.
So he's useful to them that way. And also, as you point out, he knows where many of their skeletons are buried.
On the other hand, they know where his skeletons are buried. They know exactly how badly he screwed up on 9-11 himself along with the CIA and FBI. Which brings me to the next post, replete with bombshell information on "the other Dick Clarke."
