well, big deal if there is global warming. the amount of coal in all the reserves could not make it hotter than in the late Cambrian period.
if it happens now, what is the big problem? the sea rises 200 feet.. has happened before, and having to move to higher ground is not a world calamity, it is justice for the people who don't have oceanfront. a little darwinism never hurt any species.
moisture patterns will change.. yeah... but more energy in the system means more evaporation which means more water in the air, which falls somewhere, so the main deal is that the pattern changes. again, Geico doesn't insure rainfall patterns. for every loser, there will be a winner.
Third of all, the Canadians will be like pigs in clover. they will be growing warm weather crops and melanomas like the rest of us. lucky bastards.
The argument about whether global warming is happening or not is getting lame, as it probably is happening, but if it is or isn't, so what? the range and extent of many species will change,,, it would suck to be a ponderosa pine if a saguaro wants your spot, but the germ plasm of most species will hang on. others won't. new ones will arise.
like chihuahua/hippopotamus hybrids: the deal is that humans made the change, but we also have ways to facilitate adaption in ways not even imagined a generation ago. being reactionary against change is something the republicans are noted for, but in this case it is the bed-wetters that are wringing their hands. Global climate change is happening, but so what? I mean, it sounds flippant, but think about it... it is well within our range of ecological adaptation amplitude.
