I work for SuddenLink Communications. The 3rd largest cable system in the US. At first I thought that FIOS was going to be huge also. I was thinking of investing heavily.... Before I did, I talked to one of the Regional Tech Ops guys. Not saying he is going to be correct, or that he knows everything, but he more than likely knows more than you and I.... He said that VZ is taking fiber to the home. One, that costs a chit load of money. Two, the maintenance will be overwhelming. Three, he thinks they will run out of funds and end up selling the business....
Now, I think fiber to the home is a great idea. Better picture for the tv's, and also much smoother internet connections. Gamers should eat FIOS up, and the tv picture quality guru's, and that is what made me think it would be a total success....
I just wanted to share the both sides.....Good luck bb.

One more thing I forgot...

When fiber is damaged it takes half a day to fix it. I deal with outages for SuddenLink, and when we have a fiber outage it usually takes at least 4 hours to fix. Some people may not be too thrilled with that......
