#28268 RE: KeithDust2000 #28264

Keith, it's fine to argue for the alternative hypothesis (the XP-M PR rating means something very different than a Mobile A64 PR rating), and here's how it will hold up to the current Athlon XP PR ratings at these specs: 1.6 GHz, 256K L2. In this case, it should be about 15-18% slower than the 1.8 GHz, 1MB L2, DTR 3000+.

So, is that too much, or would you say that, on average, the A64 3200+ is 15-18% faster than the Athlon XP 3200+ ?

Keith,

I still see many people complaining about a "castrated" A64, and how AMD should make a Duron64, that my attempts last year were probably for nought anyway.

Not exactly. The situation changed. Last year, I would have been complaining about a "castrated" A64, and would have been suggesting Duron64 instead. But that was before Intel announcement. Now, I don't have any objections.

As far as timing of the appearance of Paris / Dublin, I see 2 things:
- good - AMD is seeding the market with these parts, so that the market can quickly absorb the conversion from K7 to K8
- bad - AMD is has already satisfied all the demand for high ASP AMD processors
