Feb 24, 2004 01:00

CANNES, France --(Business Wire)-- Feb. 24, 2004 Number One Multimedia Software Supplier for Mobile Phones Demonstrates AVC and High Efficiency AAC at 3GSM World Congress PacketVideo Corporation, the world's number one supplier of embedded multimedia software for mobile phones and other devices, today announced the availability of AVC video and High Efficiency AAC audio software for new OEM phone designs at the 3GSM World Congress (www.3gsmworldcongress.com). Company representatives are demonstrating new implementations of AVC and H.E. AAC, as well as the capabilities of more than a dozen PacketVideo-powered multimedia technologies and handsets from the leading device OEMs in the world.

AVC for superior quality video

AVC (Advanced Video Codec, also known as H.264) is an emerging video standard with the potential for significant increases in quality and efficiency, both of which are important factors for mobile devices. PacketVideo's AVC demonstration at the 3GSM World Congress (Hall 4, Stand L22), features video playback on the Sony Ericsson P900 using PacketVideo's custom video player and codecs.

"The goal of our handset OEM partners is to provide a very high quality video and audio user experience on their phones," said Leon Chicheportiche, PacketVideo vice president for European embedded business development. "With PacketVideo's market-leading mobilemedia technology and expertise and our new enhanced implementations of AVC and High Efficiency AAC, we can offer OEMs maximum flexibility and maximum quality."

"PacketVideo supports AVC, and we have been developing technology around it to improve its MIPS, visual quality and coding efficiency performance," said Dr. Osama Alshaykh, Ph.D., PacketVideo vice president of technology. "We have also integrated AVC with our multi-format media player engine. The gains inherent in AVC are greatly enhanced by PacketVideo technology and software developments."

High Efficiency AAC for superior quality audio

PacketVideo's demonstration of High Efficiency AAC utilizes the Sony Ericsson P900, and also includes a demonstration of SRS WOW(TM) audio enhancement technology. PacketVideo supports all popular audio formats to give the OEM the widest possible choice and best user experience.

"Standard AAC is a great audio codec for mobile phones, but we are excited to be able to push the envelope even further with High Efficiency AAC," said Dr. Alshaykh. "The benefit is more efficiency for higher sound quality on the mobile device."
