Tantivy receives seventh patent
Jill Krueger
Melbourne-based Tantivy has been granted its seventh patent since it began developing mobile high-speed Internet technology in 1997.

The patents are the first in a series of more than 75 filed that support the company's I-CDMA technology, which allows for mobile Internet access. The patents are for advances in delivering speed, capacity and coverage advantages more cost effectively to wireless carriers and customers.

I-CDMA allows more users to operate a shared data system simultaneously without interference, at higher data rates and at a lower cost by sending information over the Internet instead of via voice protocol.

James Proctor Jr., director of technology marketing for the privately held company, explains, "Until now, data services have been about trying to provide data via voice protocols -- fitting a square peg in a round hole. Tantivy's solution is Internet-based, from end-to-end, meaning the system is optimized for data."
