re: MOT & IDCC

It's very nice to see both these co's mentioned in the same sentence BUT it could just be the way it was written.

Are these two co's working with each other OR are they both working on the same platform ans technology independepently? You can read that sentence two ways??? Any thoughts?

I like reading the following sentence from that article as having reference to "relative equals" in the wireless industry.

"Everybody wants it," said Wickware of HSDPA – and indeed both Motorola and InterDigital have also been very vocal about their plans for the technology at the show.

See that? Motorola and InterDigital are being referred to as equals in a story posted from Cannes by sweet Anne Morris. Gotta assume that Anne is thinking about her American readership there, and that she is using those two "powerhouses of American wireless technology" to ensure credibility.

Do hope that is what she was thinking, and that her thoughts were shaped by the buzz going on in Cannes this week.

WOW IDCC making noise at Cannes re HSDPA. Tfwg from your referenced article as follows:

..."Nortel, like many other vendors and operators, is now looking ahead to the next stage of 3G – high-speed downlink packet access or HSDPA. Wickware expects trials to start next year and is confident that market volume will start to build up in around 2006.

"Everybody wants it," said Wickware of HSDPA – and indeed both Motorola and InterDigital have also been very vocal about their plans for the technology at the show."

From a conversation with Janet on Friday as follows:

One question dealt with HSDPA and did IDCC have IPR in this emerging technology. Janet said that yes IDCC definitely has IPR in this evolving technology. IDCC has already made accepted 3G contributions in this area, and expects to continue making contributions in this particular technology. I asked if HSDPA was applicable to TDD also. Janet said that at the present, HSDPA has just applied to FDD as added enhancements to this 3G mode. However, it might have some applicability to the TDD modes in the future.
